In 2015, the UN challenged the world’s governments by setting out its Sustainable Development Goals, designed “to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity by 2030”. The ambition of the SDGs is a particular challenge to developing nations, a truth that is not lost on the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB), which, a year after the UN announced its SDGs, set up its Lives and Livelihoods Fund (LLF) to combat global poverty.
